Mixed-Used, Residential Complex, Public Spaces

Project Description: The design of this multi-family residential complex was developed in South Boston. Once a predominantly Irish Catholic community, in recent years South Boston has become increasingly desirable among young professionals and families who are attracted to the neighborhood's strong sense of community.

As part of the design of base building, one large contiguous single volume space was designated for the public amenities such as a motion studio, cyber café, catering pantry, lounge with a theater and fitness center. The plan is composed of three "ribbons" running the full length of this designated space. First ribbon, closest to the street, houses the cyber café, gym and the leasing office while the 2nd ribbon houses the public bathrooms, mail room and receptionist. The third ribbon, with views of the courtyard, houses the main lounge with fireplace as well as the motion studio. This simple diagram was further articulated with continuous cove lights and theatrical lighting.
