Project Description | The architect was hired by Washington Realty Investment Trust to propose a design for the renovation of all the public spaces including the main entry lobby and exterior canopy. The main feature of the existing building, a 1980s design, was a heavy and oppressive concrete canopy that blocked all-natural light from penetrating the main lobby. As part of the overall design, the architect proposed a new integrated canopy that was lighter in appearance, more contemporary in design, and made primarily of glass and stainless steel allowing penetration of natural light into the lobby. In contrast to the rigid outdated façade of the building, the new design consisted of planes that were undulated deep inside the building.
